Of all fifteen species of cranes, the world's most rare are the Three White Cranes. Red-crowned, Siberian, and Whooping Cranes each symbolize long life, fidelity, and good fortune for the cultures whose landscapes they share. The Red-crowned Crane is found throughout Asia, and inspired the origami crane in Japan. Siberian Cranes are celebrated through dance in Yakutia, Russia, and In North America, Whooping Cranes are symbols of perseverance, having come back from the brink of extinction in the 1940's.
